Steve Winder has been a key figure in the hairdressing industry for more than 30 years. On top of a very successful styling career, Steve has mentored small to medium size salon businesses, and as an author, has had articles published on a variety of issues ranging from finance to hairdressing business management. He is a popular speaker and owner of the very successful salon group, Secrets Hairdressing, based in Rayleigh and Wickford in Essex.

Over Steve’s many years in the hairdressing industry he has fronted numerous training workshops and stage presentations, working alongside top industry names such as Charles Worthington, Guy Kramer, Trevor Sorbie and Lisa Shepherd. Steve has also been involved in training new hair talent, and was part of the lecturing team at L’Oréal Technical Center, teaching on a wide variety of styling, cutting and colouring skills as well as delivering programmes all over the country in his capacity as L’Oréal Perm Ambassador.

Steve’s expertise is widely acknowledged in the UK and this has been cemented by invitations to judge at prestigious competitions for the National Hairdressers Federation. He is also no stranger to the limelight, having wowed crowds of up to 500 people at seminars in huge British venues.

Over the years Steve has had great success in hair competitions, has featured in numerous industry shows, and has created styles for high class fundraising charity events – most notably for the Terrance Higgins Trust at the Cafe Royal in London. His work has regularly been published in media titles such as Women’s Own, Hair, Hair Flair, Your Hair and the Hairdressers Journal.

The government Department of Trade and Industry (now the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) has also recognised the success of Steve’s growing business, and has identified him as one of Britain’s most enterprising employers. Officials have praised Steve’s flexibility in allowing his team members to schedule their hours to fit in with their home lives, enabling them to both meet domestic commitments whilst still being able to contribute in full to the life of the salons.
